Other Names - Cassia acutifolia, Cassia lanceolata, Cassia senna, Senna acutifolia, Senna angustifolia, East Indian Senna, Egyptian Senna and Alexandrian Senna, True Senna, Bombay Senna, Khartoum Senna, Wild Indian Senna, Tinnevelly Senna.

Origin - India

Flavor Profile - Not as unpleasant as the leaf, but flavor improves when combined with ginger, peppermint or lemon.

Culinary Usages - The pod, which is actually a legume, is sometimes used in cooking in its native region. Elsewhere, whole senna pods are typically used to produce, teas, infusions and tonics.

Decorative Usages - Add to potpourri blends and use for art and craft projects. 

Senna pods are the seed pods of the senna plant. Senna is native to tropical Africa and cultivated in Egypt, the Sudan and elsewhere. People in northern Africa and southwestern Asia have traditionally used senna to support healthy bowel function for centuries. To use as a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1/2 tsp. of herb, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.

Precautions - Do not use internally if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain because Senna may worsen these conditions and be harmful to your health.
