Flavor Profile - Sharp and spicy, but milder than fresh ginger. Blends well with other warm spices, like cinnamon and cardamom.

Ginger is a spice obtained from the dried root of a flowering plant that is native to India and Malaysia, where it is also considered an important herb in Ayurvedic medicine. It is rarely found in the wild today, but is widely cultivated in China, where the herb is known as Shen Jiang.

Most people are familiar with ground ginger root as a flavoring for cookies, cakes, breads and pumpkin pie. However, powdered ginger can also be used in natural skin care products, from soaps to facial toners and lotions.

Ginger root powder provides the pungent spice of the fresh root, but is slightly milder. Try sprinkling a small amount over hot noodles or stir into soups, stews and vegetable dishes.

Sprinkle into bath water or a foot soak (use warm, not hot water), add to body scrubs or infuse in oil for use in salves, lotions and creams.

In addition to cooking, the ground root may be encapsulated as a dietary supplement.
