Other Names - Wild Atlantic Kombu, Kombu, Konbu, Oarweed, Kombu, Tangleweed, Sea Girdle, Sea Tangle, Sea Ribbon.
Origin - Iceland
Flavor Profile - Granulated kelp is an “acquired” taste. It has a strong fishy flavor to some people but is only mildly salty to others.
Culinary Usages - Add to vegetable and fruit smoothies in small amounts. May also be encapsulates as a dietary supplement.
Equine Usages - A natural source of vitamins and minerals to help promote a stong immune system and healthy coat. Recommended Amount: 1 oz. per day, based on 1000 lb. Horse.
Household Usages - Use as a natural fertilizer in the garden.
Typical Preparations - Kelp granules can be easily included in practically every dish. You may sprinkle it on entrees, soups, salads, and it makes a marvelous drink in the form of a "green smoothie". Also adds well in teas and in iced drinks.
Kelp is a generic name for over 300 species of large brown algae that belong to the order Laminariales. Our Kelp is Laminaria longicruris, also known as "Wild Atlantic Kombu," because of its similarity to Japanese Kombu. Kelp (L. longicruris).
