Typical Preparations  - Encapsulate, tincture, infuse in oil for use in ointments, salves and creams.

Flavor Profile - Very bitter. May be prepared as tea or tinctured. (See safety warning.)

Motherwort is a member of the mint family that earned its common name because it was once a favorite herb among midwives.

The leaves of this herb is characterized by a very bitter flavor and a hairy texture. This herb is often used in tea blends, but due to the presence of cardiac alkaloids, internal use is not recommended during pregnancy or in conjunction with pharmaceutical medications that act on the heart.

Precautions - Do not use during pregnancy. Due to the presence of cardiac alkaloids, do not use this herb internally without medical supervision if you have a heart condition or take pharmaceutical medications to control blood pressure.
