Flavor Profile - Mildly bitter, but lacks flavor otherwise. Combine with other herbs to improve taste in tea blends and in foods. 

Culinary Usages - Blend with other herbs as a flavor enhancer for soups, stews, casseroles and other dishes.

Costmetic Usages - Add to bar soaps, bath scrubs and bath bags. Infuse in oil for use in skin creams and ointments.

Shavegrass, also known as Horsetail and Snake Grass, is known as a living fossil because it is the only surviving species in its genus with a history dating to the Paleozoic era . The plant gets its common name from the fact that the erect stems resemble a horse's tail.

This non-flowering plant, which is closely related to the fern, is the most abundant source of silica that exists, and is also rich in calcium and potassium.

Because of the nutritional properties of this herb, horsetail powder is encapsulated as a dietary supplement or used to make "tonics" for house and garden plants.

Powdered horsetail is also used in natural cosmetics, most notably in hair conditioners and shampoos.

Precautions - Avoid this herb if you have a known thiamine deficiency or a history of kidney disease.
