Flavor Profile - The berries lend a mild wintergreen-like flavor but, overall, the taste is astringent.

Culinary Usages - Prepare as a tincture. The powdered herb is also encapsulated as a dietary supplement. 

Cosmetic Usages - Infuse in oil for use in salves, ointments and creams. May also be applied as a moist poultice.

Squawvine was employed among Native Americans for medical conditions relating to the health of Women’s Reproductive Systems, particularly during pregnancy and at childbirth.

While the leaf is usually prepared as tea, the powdered herb, which includes both leaf and fruit, is typically tinctured. Sometimes squawvine is tinctured with other herbs with astringent qualities, such as myrrh. The powdered herb may also be encapsulated as a dietary supplement.
