Sinapis alba is botanically known as white mustard but most people refer to it as yellow mustard, if only because the seeds are used to produce the condiment of the same name. A member of the cabbage family, the species is original to the Mediterranean region but is now naturalized throughout most of the world.
Most people would be surprised to learn that yellow mustard isn't yellow. The white herb powder is made yellow in the prepared condiment by the addition of turmeric. Dijon mustard is the condiment without the turmeric but with a relatively high concentration of mustard flour.
Household Usages - Make a paste with water and use as a laundry stain remover (works best on proteins).
